The appointment

I might die sooner than I might get an appointment with a doctor here.Or so it has been ,so far.An appointment, that was requested two weeks back, has finally been fixed for the next week.Luckily,I am not on my death-bed ,so I can manage to stay put for three weeks, but I wonder what happens to people who are like, you know,in dire need of immediate medical care. This apart, giving your details is a nightmare.Especially your name.Definitely something like Satyanarayanan is not a very familiar word to a German receptionist. As both mine and my husband’s name are relatively long , my total name is quite huge now ,at least by my standards .Its got around 22 letters ,I think.Poor spouse spelt out this name thus on the phone.S for Spain,A for America,N for Nigeria,G for Germany ..and so on.He took around 10 minutes to spell out my full name to the poor German lady at the other end.He must have used atleast half of the countries on the world map.She must’ve freaked out. Lesson learnt-Don’t pass on the burden of long names at least to the next generation.Keep it short, and sweet.Would save them a lot of trouble.

Yuck.

“Rain rain go away.

Come again another day”

What wisdom ! Rain looks good only in the movies. And only when pretty heroines are prancing around or chocolate-boy heroes are dancing about it. I fit neither category.

One can’t step out. And even if one does, the rain makes you all soggy and slushy.Just can’t stand it.

Next,this chill weather.Freaks me out.Everytime I got to go out,its a ritual.First the sweater,then the woollen scarf,then the winter jacket,then the winter cap.Then the socks,the shoes…Sigh.Tired even before I step out.

Nothing like the heat-stricken cities of India. Can’t wait to get back there and get roasted.

Weird.

A few days back, when spouse pronounced he would make bajjis out of bananas for me,I just went eww and gave him a look of utter disgust.I couldn’t somehow digest ripe banana bajji, never having had them before.Perhaps they would have tasted good but ,involuntarily, when you even just hear of certain types of food, you wonder who in the God invented such a weird combination. But,then who am I to speak ? As a kid,I had some really weird food habits.Like, sprinkling sugar over puliyodhara(tamarind rice),over bisibelebath . Making a snack out of odachakadala plus sugar.Dosa with sambar all over it,with sugar sprinkled on that as well..Thank God I grew out of all that.Any weird food habits, people ?

Pretty.

Nothing more relieving than entering shopping malls on weekends to escape the chilly cold outside. And seeing some beautifully decorated Christmas trees as well .

Now,don’t ask me why the hell I go out on weekends in that case. Its basic instinct .

The way the decorations are presented at the shops just make them so very attractive you want to grab a couple of them just for the heck of it.Maybe I should buy a few.And hang them as drishti poosanikais when I get back.

A lot can happen..

..in a coffee shop ;-)

Now ,this is one way to do your bit to society without being, exactly, selfless.Good!

If tomorrow never comes ??

This uncertainty in life,is it a boon ? To not know what tomorrow holds,to tread the path ,sometimes with fear, sometimes with excitement, and sometimes with a totally blank mind ? Wouldn’t it be better if you knew what was coming your way so that you could be better prepared for it ? I know ,I know, the age-old argument that its better not knowing whats to come which makes you want to live life.Whats the fun in already knowing whats going to happen next ?Thats like reading the last page of an Agatha Christie novel at the very outset. But,still,I wonder,sometimes..if only I could look into the future, perhaps I would read that book I wanted to for very long today,I would make that call to that long-lost friend today,I would tell someone how much they mean to me in words today,I would have a packet full of jaangiri just today itself..I wish I knew.

Marakaathe

Guilty,as charged. In the rat race, both in personal and professional life,we sometimes tend to just forget to live the moment.Tch.Man,seriously,I am all screwed if I can find philosophy in a Vijay song ;-)

Saturday noon..

..ATM pogalaam variya ?” I agreed immediately. As I had nothing better to do .And as this was the first time since our arrival here that they were screening a Tamil movie in the city.Surprised on arriving at the theatre, there were more kids than adults.Looks like Vijay has a lot of next generation fans.Aprum,as usual, namma ooru makkal enga ponaalum maara maataanga. So there was a mad rush to get the tickets at the counter and in our group,I was somehow the chosen one.Somehow, holding my breath and bearing the immense pressure of all the vaandus around me ,I managed to get the tickets.I was rueing over my fate as to how ,for the first time in my life,I had bought tickets like this, and that too,for a Vijay movie. But ,I have to admit,I was pleasantly surprised. Mainly, because,

  • Vijay doesn’t become a collector or an IAS officer or a sub-inspector in the last five minutes of the movie. He remains what he was,at the beginning.
  • He doesn’t spout punch or thathuvam dialogues before hitting the villain [ was this because he himself was the villain as well ?Maybe].He doesn’t chastise the heroine for wearing too less clothes. There are no punch dialogues. Can it get better than that ?!!
  • There ,actually,is a little more than the age-old good guy-vs-bad goondas story. However incredible the story may sound,at least it makes for a little interesting viewing. And I really have to say to all those people who said the movie was illogical simply because it had ESP in it.Come on,if we can accept premonition in Final Destination and seeing dead people in sixth sense, why not ESP in a Vijay movie ? No double standards here ;-)
  • The music.Frankly, when I heard the songs earlier,I wasn’t too impressed. But its a totally different story when you watch it in the movie.I enjoyed the music.Especially,Valayapatti thavilley and Ponmagal Vanthaal.

What could have been avoided – Shakila [ Eww.Comedy doesn't have to be gross].The climax chasing scenes.Too impossible to even imagine and graphics was not that good either.Shreya looks gorgeous but I was really worried her skirts were going to fall off any time. They were dangerously low.And ,au contraire, Namitha’s were extremely high !Vijay’s intro song.Though the music was good and Vijay’s dance was good, the two didn’t quite gel together.

Verdict : Definitely better than his usual run-of-the-mill movies.

Action Sunday

Pona vaaram Bourne vaaram.Marathon viewing of the Bourne trilogy over the weekend. And I’m smitten by Matt Damon.Sigh.Why were there no amnestic CIA assasins around when I decided to get married? Anyways.
