Taare Zameen Par

One of the best films of 2007 comes at the fag end of the year . And Aamir has vindicated himself (in my eyes :-P ) after the Mangal Pandey and Fanaa fiasco.

Its one of those rare movies which tug at your heart-strings ,leaves you moist-eyed at many a scene ,but puts a big smile on your face at the end :-) .

In Billa ..

…should NayanTara get a Lifetime Morachufying Achievement Award ? Did they not pay her for smiling ?

..in Malaysia,do even criminals get to wear Ray Ban and go to prison ? Ennaangada.

….I didn’t know you could put a bullet into a person and then come with the excuse “Sorry, naan theriyaama panniten” ? Lamest dialogue there, man.

….Was there an acute shortage of screenplay writers ? All dialogues were one word answers . “Varen”, “Poren”,”Panren.Naan Panren” ,”Sudren”.

..is it enough to just give a Hollywood-like glossy finish to a movie to raise it to Hollywood standards ? Nah,I don’t think so.Black and white suits and Ray Ban doesn’t maketh a Hollywood movie, man.

A greeting a day.

Of late ,I’ve only found reasons to crib about being in this cold city.Stinging wind, freezing cold,no good Indian [athuvum South indian Saravana Bhavan-like] restaurants, unable to communicate with most of the natives except through sign language. And ,yea, the lists pretty huge and still growing now that I’ve kind of reached my breaking point .

In all fairness,I should also point out the trivial things that I like about this country, this city.In India,at most supermarkets (especially happens mostly to me at Food World),after all the joy of senseless, useless shopping, when you come to the counter, most of the times, all we would be greeted with is a sullen look.Or the robocop look. Its different here. The lady at the counter gives u this nice smile and greets you with a sing-song Guten Tag .Shes all smiles even if u buy just a toothpick. And now, even I’ve got into the habit of just saying a hi or returning their greeting.

I have to get out of this habit before I get back to India.I can just imagine the counter fellow staring at me as though I am totally mad if I do this in India :-O

Kafka on the Shore

Thought for sometime.

In a world of time, nothing can go back to the way it was.

So true. The line that made the most sense in Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami .

I’ve no single word to describe the book.It was interesting reading,as in a page-turner.Yes,I did ,at every point, want to know what happened next.Mainly, because at many points, the plot was totally bizarre to me,like men talking to cats and cats talking back (huh?) and spirits for people who are not yet dead. But,in all probability,I think I haven’t got the deeper meaning of the book. However, the one line that I totally understood was the one above.Perhaps thats why they say ,live the moment. You can never ever recreate it.Even with all the elements in place.

For all my efforts to graduate from “my usual mundane” reading [ so my Dad used to say everytime I used to bring countless Agatha Christies and Sydney Sheldons and various other thrillers]..Not bad for a start,I can say.

Someone give it a shot and please, pray ,tell me what the whole book is actually about.

Waterworld

A visit to the aqua zoo last weekend, and I learnt a few new facts.

1. You have a bigger chance of winning the national lottery than being eaten by a Shark . [Screw Jaws,Open Water and all other shark movies, man.Anyways,I have no chance of being eaten by a shark.I guess I would drown before the shark finds me.]

2. Jelly fish, those fragile creatures that seem to be made out of polythene.I was always awed by them. How could such things survive ?? Well,it seems that Jelly Fish have no brain and no heart. [ That explains it all.No brains. No think. No worries. No heart. No emotions. No trouble at all.Can survive ;-) ]

3 .Don’t bother taking a camera to these aqua-zoos or whatever.Especially normal cameras. Its just way too hard to get nice snaps.Plus Flash photography is prohibited.Supposedly, flash is not good for fish’s eyes ( ????)

Silly point

How can one be prepared for the worst when one really has no idea what the worst would be like ? Silly,no ? Or,Silly me.

RLS

Somethings wrong with me .Theres this particular song I like.So much.So much that I have listened to it continuously for almost the whole day.And I’m sure I’m going to be bored of it by like tommorrow. This happens to me always ,this Repetitive Listening Syndrome.Happened with Alaipaayuthey .Now I just don’t have a single Alaipayuthey song on my playlist.Too much of a good thing,I guess. And of late its been Tum Se Hi from Jab we Met.I hope I don’t tire of this one soon.

I realise I am not a very moderate person.Everything is done in extremities and it takes the fun out of it after a while.Sigh.
