Being a mother

Mothering just grows on you so much so that you begin to start enjoying it after a certain point of time. The stress, the sleepless nights, the endless rocking, the incessant whining ,crying while you just hover around not knowing exactly whats wrong with the little one and how to stop her crying, and also how to keep your own temper in check.Everything takes a backseat when she looks at me with that little twinkle in her eyes, when she gives me a clumsy flying kiss,or when she smothers me by clambering all over me ,giggling all the time.I’m loving it.

But,I cannot turn this into a mommy blog because I think I simply cannot do justice to my adorable little brat,in words.

UPO

Terrorism is instant. Why can’t justice be so ?

What a movie ! Of course,I haven’t watched Wednesday yet.So ,without comparing the two,by itself,UPO was really good,Mohanlal’s malayali accent included.

Spoilsport : After the movie was over, spouse had only this to ask.Why do the guys who make the bombs use wires of different colors ? I thought a valuable moral could be got from this movie, but some people choose the smaller details .

Stepmom

I watched Stepmom twice.I loved the movie. It was subtle yet powerful.A movie that didn’t end with a  moral, a movie that didn’t potray the other woman as a vamp,or the husband as an infidel. No bucket loads of tears,no long tacky sentimental dialogues. It was beautiful. And ,now I dread to think what Karan Johar is going to do this gem of a movie.Supposedly ,Kajol makes Kareena nervous. And,together, all the three Ks are making me nervous. For once, let them get it right,God.

Arranged Marriage

Its easy to not feel like putting down a thriller. To read it in one go.Its however, quite hard to feel the same, about a book of short stories. And not exactly Saki type stories.Short,open-ending type stories about failed marriages, lost love, painful divorces, the works. But Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni’s Arranged Marriage does exactly that. Initially,I wasn’t all so impressed with her writing. But,as I finished story after story,I actually could not put the book down. Her style of writing actually brings so much life to the characters that you pretty much feel what they’re feeling. The book is not essentially about arranged marriages. Its about all kinds of marriages, divorces, love lost.Though it does make for a good read, most of the stories end on a very melancholy note. Most of the marriages are failed. And most seem to find love outside that one legally binding relationship.Though some of the stories do throw a faint ray of light at the end of the tunnel,I really wonder if anyone who reads this book would ever want to go through all the trouble of getting married just for that one ray of hope.

Bull.

Orkut was trying too hard to be funny today.

Today’s fortune: What we think, we become (Please don’t think you are a superhero and don’t try to fly)

I need a wall.

What Chennai lacks.

  • A good and efficient mode of public transportation.Would the Metro end this woe of mine ? Only time can tell.
  • Metered autos.Atleast,Bangalore is better than Chennai in this one aspect. The auto fellows in this city are ,IMO,out of this world. So are their demands. For the money I pay them to commute to and from work,I can probably just hand over my paycheque to them directly at the beginning of every month.
  • Patient commuters.Everyone is in a hurry, only to wait at the next traffic signal
  • Reasonable real estate prices in reasonable livable areas. The rate at which real estate is expanding, the prices vertically and the areas  horizontally,it looks like we would’ve to be soon commuting all the way from either Kancheepuram or Tirupathi, and yet be paying EMI for the rest of our lives.

Chennai is catching up with the rest of the metros, for all the wrong reasons :-( .I thought most of my problems would be solved after moving back to Chennai.Looks like they’ve just started.

A little bit more.

I want to be a super-mom like Kim Clijsters.I totally understand why she cried after the winning moment. Its quite an achievement, having anything called a career after having a baby.A year after my delivery, and I still can’t climb a single set of stairs without tiring a little. And she just won the U.S open .Lady, you just inspired me,atleast for that one day :-D

I want to read The Lost Symbol.

I want to watch Eeram, for the thrills.I want to watch Kandasamy, just for laughs.

I want to be impeccably dressed, and not appear like I just walked out of bed, every other second.

So many wants,so little time,so little energy.

For now,I think I’ll just go pick up the Lost Symbol. The rest can wait.

I love the Sun.

Theres nothing like some hot sun to brighten up my day.I hate it when it rains. Its sloshy. Its messy. Its gloomy. Its depressing. One can’t shop. One can’t take a walk in the park. One can’t wear white. And,of late, one also has to worry about swine flu.But I must be one of a kind,I think.Having been born in Chennai,I still somehow can’t live without a little sunshine, everyday .

Someone tell me why they love the rains.

Aadhavan

Aadhavan is typical Harris Jayaraj.Every song sounds familiar.Every little jingle feels like its been used in one of his earlier songs. And,to God,I wish lyricists would stop using utter gibberish to fill up the songs :-( .I mean, its one thing to sing something meaningful and feel it.I really have no clue how exactly words like,Hasili Fisili, and Maasa Maasi make u want to sing alongwith the song. And feel it.

Anyways,I guess, like all other Harris’s albums, this one too will just grow on you.

Afterthought : Is this the same Harris who gave us Dhaam Dhoom ? I loved most of the songs on that one.Lovely.Aadhavan is definitely quite mundane compared to that.

Finally.

I dropped my 6month old cell phone in to the washing machine ,alongwith the dirty blankets and pillow covers.Thats why it never pays to be too clean around the house.Let lying things be.

Tuesday mornings don’t get better than this,I guess.
