Enna Vannam !

A breezy evening.A beautiful sky.A cuppa steaming coffee. The love of my life and the apple of my eye beside me.

Could life get better than this ? And ,oh ,yea ,beautiful lyrics and music playing in my mind.

Alaiyillaatha aazhi vannam,

Mugillilaatha vaanin vannam..

Mayilin kazhuthil vaazhum vannam,

kuvalai poovil kuzhaitha vannam.

Oothapoovil ootriya vannam,

ellaam sernthen kann munn minnum. [ithu mattum paathi original lyric ] “

And a mediocre mobile phone camera to capture the kodak moment.

Snow White !

Nice to see,
A view to behold,
But when you get out there [ I tell you],
Its really cold !!

Last weekend’s one day trip to a nearby town called Winterberg. As the name suggests, and as do the pics, you can guess what its famous for. Seriously, snow looks great as long as you are either sitting, all bundled up in the warm train or at a restaurant sipping coffee.

But,man, did I have a tough time keeping my fingers and toes warm once I was out in the snow :-( I think I am blue-blooded [ I mean,my blood turns blue fast, especially at end-points like fingers and toes, only ]. Really,me only fit for the Indian summer.

Waterworld

A visit to the aqua zoo last weekend, and I learnt a few new facts.

1. You have a bigger chance of winning the national lottery than being eaten by a Shark . [Screw Jaws,Open Water and all other shark movies, man.Anyways,I have no chance of being eaten by a shark.I guess I would drown before the shark finds me.]

2. Jelly fish, those fragile creatures that seem to be made out of polythene.I was always awed by them. How could such things survive ?? Well,it seems that Jelly Fish have no brain and no heart. [ That explains it all.No brains. No think. No worries. No heart. No emotions. No trouble at all.Can survive ;-) ]

3 .Don’t bother taking a camera to these aqua-zoos or whatever.Especially normal cameras. Its just way too hard to get nice snaps.Plus Flash photography is prohibited.Supposedly, flash is not good for fish’s eyes ( ????)

Pretty.

Nothing more relieving than entering shopping malls on weekends to escape the chilly cold outside. And seeing some beautifully decorated Christmas trees as well .

Now,don’t ask me why the hell I go out on weekends in that case. Its basic instinct .

The way the decorations are presented at the shops just make them so very attractive you want to grab a couple of them just for the heck of it.Maybe I should buy a few.And hang them as drishti poosanikais when I get back.

Paradise found.

After an 8 hour overnight journey, you reach this place called Garmisch.Temperatures are in single digits. And its so freezing cold that you cannot even get your hands out of your jacket pockets to munch some chips. That cold, now you know what I mean. This place’s most famous tourist spot is Zugspitze .Which is the highest peak in Germany. If its this damn cold down town,we are pretty sure by now we would never survive Zugspitze. We look at each other and wonder, what in the hell were we thinking when we decided to make a trip to this place. We walk aimlessly ,searching for the big MacDonalds sign anywhere. At least, lets keep our tummies happy,we think.During this aimless wander,we chance upon the Tourist Information Center. She tells us that temperature at Zugspitze is zero degree c. At least, ingeyaavathu single-digitla irukku, anga mela ponnaa aapu thaan,we think to overselves. As an after thought, she adds,”Actually, the conditions at Zugspitze are pretty mild today [ Err..since when did zero degree c become mild???].Though its zero degreeC,the suns shining up there and its a good time to visit the place.”We thank her for her advice and resume our search for Mac.Finally, after having filled our tummies,we decide,Zugspitze it is.Whether we can bear it or not,at least lets shiver a bit and catch the next train back.

Sitting in the cogwheel train ,all buttoned up to face the music.

First signs of snow atop this shed.

A little further down,hmm..more snow..

More time passes,and we see…

a lot of snow !!

After a 1 hour journey we reach the mountain station,go out the door. And this is what we see.

A piece of heaven on earth.

Gracias,Italy! – 2

So the first thing that impressed me was the Colosseum. The next,a much lesser known one.I didn’t know it existed till I visited Rome

2.The Trevi Fountain.

Generically, for all the monuments in Rome, there is a big difference viewing it by day and by night. While by day,you do admire the architectural intricacies,by night you just admire how magnificent and beautiful it looks.

The theme of the fountain is the Taming of the Waters. That is the God Neptune ( The God of the Sea in Roman mythology),and his Tritons  (They are the sons of the God Neptune. Also,Triton is the name of the largest moon of the planet Neptune) are taming the seahorses.Legend has it that if you throw one coin into the fountain, you will surely return to Rome one day.If you throw two,you will get married in Rome and If you throw three, any guesses ? You will be divorced in Rome !! Can you beat that ? How many people would be throwing three coins in there ;-) ).Everyday almost 3000 euros are thrown into this fountain [ Courtes:Wikipedia].Whew.Thats a lot of people either wanting to get divorced or wanting to return to Rome,I guess ;-)

As usual, the above shot is one of many failed attempts at perfection. This was the best of the lot.To add to our woes, the place was perpetually crowded at any time of the day.Really hard to get a nice clean picture here. But this view of the fountain by night really took my breath away.It would have been much more beautiful if it had been less crowded. But you gotta live with the fact that Italy is too major a tourist centre to expect those luxuries.

Why?

Seriously, aren’t there better ways to have fun than this ??

Like ,maybe,driving on Indian roads.

Pics taken at a local fair in the city on Sunday.Wonder why people go for such rides and then scream the hell out of their lungs once they are on it.Doesn’t make sense to inflict such sheer terror on yourself. Some idea of fun ;-) .I never get it.

And,thus..

Suddenly, before you know it,two hearts start to beat as one.Two minds think alike (not great minds, necessarily ;-) )

A single look conveys a thousand words. You don’t have to speak to be heard.

From then, you can be yourself with this other alter ego .Your complexes, your fears, your most embarassing shortcomings all there out in the open. And yet, still the love remains.Perhaps, this is the love that was meant to stay.

To all those people celebrating their first wedding anniversary today, Cheers to you !!! And,to me ;-)

Seilbahns and Acrophobia

I see I’ve been posting stuff that you could read up anywhere else..its getting boring. So ,me back to writing under the influence of brain.

My first cable car(a.k.a seilbahn) ride was in this country. And a few more followed.I still get sweaty palms when I get onto a cable car,no matter whether its a closed one or open one.At one time, when we were somewhere high up and there was this deep valley right below us,I got all nervous and clutched my better half’s hands tightly. He tried to make light of the situation and said “Look, this safety bar is not going to come off like this,ok ” ,and ,no prizes for guessing right, it did come off..I was just a little short of screaming for my life when he somehow got it back into position and well, sigh ,since then,I’m a little edgy on cable cars.Still, that didn’t deter me from taking two seilbahns this weekend.Pics follow.

The first one was pretty ok ,’cos it was kind of closed and some lovely vineyards below.A fall might have broken a few bones maybe. So I was ok with it.

But,the second one was exactly like the one where my dear better half (really, how can I still call him better after he did that,I don’t know) pulled out the safety bar.

This was just the beginning of the ride.Further down, this flat stretch of greenery deepened into another valley .And,everytime I sit in a cable car I always remember the countless gory stories of things goingwrong ,cables ripping, safety bars going off..pulleys going haywire…whew.

I’m thankful to the thousand and one Gods everytime my feet feel the firm ground again. I just cant resist the urge to throw myself into the depths whenever I am at a height.Read somewhere that that is a possible sign of Acrophobia.Hmm..

Tongue-tied

Sometimes, its better not to write anything. Especially, when you realise, how bad you are at it :-(
