Aadhavan

Aadhavan is typical Harris Jayaraj.Every song sounds familiar.Every little jingle feels like its been used in one of his earlier songs. And,to God,I wish lyricists would stop using utter gibberish to fill up the songs :-( .I mean, its one thing to sing something meaningful and feel it.I really have no clue how exactly words like,Hasili Fisili, and Maasa Maasi make u want to sing alongwith the song. And feel it.

Anyways,I guess, like all other Harris’s albums, this one too will just grow on you.

Afterthought : Is this the same Harris who gave us Dhaam Dhoom ? I loved most of the songs on that one.Lovely.Aadhavan is definitely quite mundane compared to that.

Guzaarish

Chennai Nagaram

Yup,absence makes the heart grow fonder. The magic only grows stronger. And,despite a year or more of listening to this song like a thenjupona record till its kicked out of your playlist, suddenly, every word takes on a new meaning. You find yourself humming every line and feeling it.Lesson learnt:That that situation, that that song one should hear.

RLS

Somethings wrong with me .Theres this particular song I like.So much.So much that I have listened to it continuously for almost the whole day.And I’m sure I’m going to be bored of it by like tommorrow. This happens to me always ,this Repetitive Listening Syndrome.Happened with Alaipaayuthey .Now I just don’t have a single Alaipayuthey song on my playlist.Too much of a good thing,I guess. And of late its been Tum Se Hi from Jab we Met.I hope I don’t tire of this one soon.

I realise I am not a very moderate person.Everything is done in extremities and it takes the fun out of it after a while.Sigh.

Marakaathe

Guilty,as charged. In the rat race, both in personal and professional life,we sometimes tend to just forget to live the moment.Tch.Man,seriously,I am all screwed if I can find philosophy in a Vijay song ;-)

Family Portrait

Can we work it out? Can we be a family?
I promise I’ll be better, Mommy I’ll do anything
Can we work it out? Can we be a family?
I promise I’ll be better, Daddy please don’t
leave

Family Portrait -Album “Misunderstood” by Pink in 2002.
And i saw it just a few days back.[ What to do ? When there are only German channels on TV,and MTV is the only channel where you get to hear a little English, you start listening to that too]
Though we can’t relate to it so much, can still feel the little girl’s pain.I liked the number.Sung from the little girl’s perspective.

ARR in prison ?

Did anyone read this ??

Quoting “Behindwoods New Bureau”

A.R. Rahman – the proud Indian he has always been, had released Vande Mataram on the occasion of the 50th year of independence and in the 60th year he came up with an album “Jana Gana Mana”.

Even though the intentions were good, he seems to have forgotten that there is a law that the national anthem should be sung in a specific way and should be finished within the stipulated seconds .And if done otherwise it is deemed as disrespect to the national anthem and could attract a sentence of a maximum of three years imprisonment. And now many people are ready to sue Rahman for this action.

“Do good, there will be none to support; do good, there will be hundreds to find fault”. How true is this statement!

ARR,thevaiyaa ??? There are somethings best left original.National anthema remix pannalaama ?? :-)
I haven’t heard his version yet, though. So I shall not comment on if its better than the original or not.Still, though he is a terrific music director,I really prefer to hear our national anthem as I’ve heard it all these years.

Why Deepali ?

Does anyone watch Indian Idol 3 on a regular basis ? I don’t.But I did catch the last 2-3 episodes on the net.And this girl,Deepali was amazing. She has a great voice, cute smile. In fact,of all the contestants,I felt she was the best. And she was eliminated.Pathetic.

Nobody put it across better than Javed Akhtar when the result was announced .”People are listening with their eyes, and not with their ears. She got the sentence for her amazing voice today”.Absolutely.

White Flag

There are few songs that just catch on to you the very first time you hear it.This is one such number.I heard it first at a shopping mall in Hyd.The ambience of the mall, added to it the fact that I was shopping :-P .A lovely number sung by Dido .She has got an amazingly rich voice. There are only very few people who can carry off singing without music and still sound terrific. She has it in her vocal chords to do that. And for once,I could make out most of the words.Normally,I need to search for English lyrics to figure out what is being sung. But this one is ok.And the starting of the song,I love the beat and the rhythm.Does it sound like how some of our Tamizh songs start ?? :-) Hear it here.Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

[P.S : Re-discovering a few English songs that I used to listen to,till the lean season is over for Tamizh film song industry :-) ]

Bheema songs

Quite quite disappointed with “Bheema” songs.Feels like I’ve heard every one of them before.”Ragasiya Kanavugal” starts with “Sutrum vizhi sudarey” beats. The song by itself is ok.”Mudhal Mazhai” doesn’t impress, exactly.”Rangu Rangamma” is an item number,I suppose, but I feel I’ve heard the tune before.”Siru Paarvaiyile” starts of with some Arabic chorus(yea,it sounds like Arabic),and the rest,uh..ok again not so impressive.Like some daandiya song ,it sounds.

“Oru Mugamo” sounds like a medley of “Kannil Kaanthamey” from Mounam Pesiyathey and “The Look” from roxette.

Play
to hear Roxette. The na-na-na part was running through my head after hearing Oru Mugamo ! Similar ?”Enadhuyire” reminds me of countless other songs !!

Harris Jeyaraj, why, why ??? You ,who gave us “vaseegara” and “suttum vizhi sudarey” .why, man ??
